I'm in trouble... 92 Z03 Z28 Vert

Well late last night my cool little craigslist app popped up with a little something that caught my eye, a black with red stripes convertible Z28. There was little to no information other than needs work, and willing to negotiate. I sent him an email.

Here I am now today with my fiance thinking I'm crazy, and bunch of work to do. The car has been sitting for a year and a half with only being started two times. The back window is out in the top and was covered with a blanket and a tarp. So as you will see the interior is very rough. Will need carpet, seat covers, dash pad, and tons of misc pieces.

Here's the pics!

I'll post some more later

Did you buy it? I love the wood grain insert on the console lol. Seriously what a great find, any rust and what were they asking? I got mine in the same shape about 10 years ago for a $1,000 and a bare 396 block

Thanks man I hope so! There is so many little parts and pieces that I now regret ever getting rid of when I redid my 91. I can't wait to put a little water on it and see how things clean up.

Thinking of calling it Project Craigslist Hero

Im so jealous! You got a great deal on it especially considering the mileage. Remember what I said about if you give up on it or wanna sell it haha!

Well thanks again, it totally makes me feel better about spending that money, knowing that I stole it from the guy.

Bought it from the second owner, who says he has had it since 96 and 20k miles.

That is awesome. It just needs a little TLC. The engine bay looks unmolested for the most part which is good.

It really is unmolested. Only thing I found that he did it wired fan relays on all the tire through the door. I'm so pumped to spray water on this thing!

Front and rear set? Let me know. That is one of those things that I kick my self HARD for... I threw away my 91's original grey leather seat cover that were in great shape when I wanted that custom look

Yea it will be front and rear seats. I probably have other interior parts you can use if you get a list together.

Nice find, about an hour away from me there is a red 91-92 Z28 sitting by what looks to be a bodyshop. It has little flags on the antenna and is sitting next to other cars, has a flat tire. Maybe its forsale? I looked on google maps and found it on road view its been there for 3 years now!

Re: I'm in trouble... 92 Z03 Z28 Vert

With it being over 20 years old and un-molested you might want to think about keeping it all original including the seats or at least keeping them in case you want to go back completely stock. That is a rare car and just like my 92 except mine came with black interior instead of gray. It is a great car and bluezee just restored one exactly like it that turned out gorgeus. I am going with white stripes instead of red but I will eventually go back to 100% stock shortly after it is an antique. They are just worth a lot more that way to most people. No harm in telling people that the 350 under the hood is the factory 305 though LOL. I know your excited about the car. I have had mine for over 5 years now and I am still as excited about mine as the day I bought it.

Looks a lot better just being washed, so what are the plans? I did keep all my stock parts including the TPI motor (305) in case I want to go back to stock. I highly doubt that will ever happen because I build mostly resto-rods and one offs. My 69 Bird will be an all orginal car as will the 69 Z-28 that I just got.

I don't know how much you paid or what the mileage is, but that looks like a very cool car. I'd bet that you could save 80% of that paint too. Nice find!

I'm with 82tarecaro on the woodgrained applique. That would have been in the garbage can on day #1, if I had it.

Yeah I am very excited about it, and plan on keeping this 100% stock, including radio and all. This one is worth too much and too rare to mod.

Pretty sure I haven't told anyone it was a 350..? I figured everyone on here already would know its a 305

Keeping it all stock! We do mild restoration of driveline and suspension of a lot of classics at our shop, so it will be fun to play with this one and see how far I can take it.

Not much LOL! The car has 94k on it, and I planb of updating some pics of the "saved" paint tomorrow

The wood console thing... I took the pics about 5 minutes after I drove it back from the sellers place... it was gone 10 minutes later

Thanks man! I'm proud!

Nick did you install your top yourself?

Oh and what should I look at when I hit the hatch solenoid switch it makes two click and will intermittently only partially release. Usually have to push it back and start over to get it to release... any ideas guys?

Well while I was changing spark plugs on during my lunch break I noticed a slight dampness near the intake corner... ran it and watched... Sure enough! Intake gaskets get added to the list of to-dos!

Re: I'm in trouble... 92 Z03 Z28 Vert

Yep!!! To the junkyard it goes! LOL Chris it will be for sale late in the summer if all works out ok, and Nick doesn't want it on first dibs

Yeah about the price I would rather not say, since I will be re-selling it at some point, the price being a "steal" can really change depending on how many more issues I find on it HAHA!

I bought a 92 RS last night for a parts car for a lot of the little interior pieces that are worn or broken. Amazed at how in less than a week I went from 1 camaro to 3!!!

We will see. I'm having fun with it now. If someone offered me enough it could be gone tomorrow.

I will PM all interest parties if BlueZee28 doesn't want it, when the time comes.

Re: I'm in trouble... 92 Z03 Z28 Vert

So I made a temporary rear window to keep rain/dust out of the interior... I have a feeling the thing would blow out if I drove with the windows down and the top up LOL!

I need a little help... The rear cover release solenoids are clicking when switched, but the drivers side is not releasing every time. I lubed the latches and verified the cables will move freely, so I'm guessing the solenoid is faulty? Where do they mount, and are they available for replacement still?

I had to take mine off and spray them with electrical cleaner due to the right one sticking, tha was years ago before I tore into it now to redo it. I have not tried my top since, I really need to look into soon as I hook the power back up

you'll find them behind the rear speaker panels mounted to the body. mine did the same thing and i found the cable had come off at the solenoid

oh and nice little project you have there, awesome work on the paint renewal

So did you lubricate the latches or the actual solenoid that pulls the cable for latch? Crossing my fingers that your method will work for me too

So the solenoids mount under the latch behind the panel? I know the cable is connected to the latch, so not quite that easy LOL!

Thanks... it still needs a lot of work, but I'm gonna start working on cleaning up the engine bay here this week.

Re: I'm in trouble... 92 Z03 Z28 Vert

I unbolted the entire bracket selonoid and latch, cleaned the electrical with CRC and then used graphite to lube it all (not messy like grease) I will do that again since it has been 10 years. I need to hook up the electric soon so I can go thru all the wiring.

SERIOUS!? Yeah sorry man I tossed it the day after I got, but I did save that "custom" wood console for ya

Go grab a can of Plasti-dip and paint on a bra that you can peel off when your serious about getting your hood repaired.

The makeshift rear window I "installed" untill I can get the top replaced. The car sometimes sits outside.

I got sick and tired of staring at the hood louver grilles with the faded and worn paint, so I busted out some fineline tape and duplicolor... look much better.

That window would look cool with a high end sub making it blow way out like a bubble with each bass blast, lol

The blister looks good, the paint cleaned up pretty nice
