trunk release

I have an 89 Formula convertible and the tonneau release is on the dash. I have installed an alarm on the car and want to add trunk release to it. I took the dash apart and there is a second harness taped to the one that goes to the tonneau switch. Any idea what its for?

I took apart the rear and it appears there is a release solenoid on it, but no wire leading to it. It's the shiny cylindrical looking item on forward side of mechanism that raises and lowers trunk lid, right?

I assume if I run a relay to send a positive pulse to from the alarm to the solenoid it should work right? OR do I need another relay?

Any help is appreciated. I have searched and not found much info on this subject.

Thanks

Re: trunk release

On my 92, the trunk pull down circuit was used to release the tonneau cover and the power pull down was replaced with a standard latch, with good reason.

I would imagine since the 89 could have a power release without a pull down, I would imagine that they just disconnected it.

I said good reason because if the tonneau cover is up when the trunk goes up, they will hit and you will chip the paint on both parts. So unless you can wire an inter-lock between the two, you need to be on guard.

Re: trunk release

Thanks for the reply. From what I understand, there is an interlock of some sort on the trunk release to avoid just such a situation.

No one has ever done this? I can't seem to get it to work.

Re: trunk release

I am actually wondering to myself at this point to whether or not my 89 Formula Convertible has the pull down or not... now I have to go look... it has been so long since I have opened it, might find something I lost in there..
