305 LG4 '86 with electric fan

When I first got the car it overheated, put in a 160 thermo, fan, radiator and new relay, no problems for years. Changed engines and now fan won't come on but everything is hooked and gets electricity. Finally I said screw it and made it manual with a toggle switch. Now I know it's on.

86 Z28 305 TPI single electric fan

Mine overheated a lot as well, found a good used Modine aluminum radiator at junkyard and installed it, new fan relay harness from dealer, spliced in a Hayden adjustable thermostically controlled relay (with radiator probe) from oreillys for like $20 in parallel with the stock relay at 160* so if the hayden relay doesnt kick on the ecm will power on the fan at 225*, 160* thermostat (drilled bypass holes to allow it to untrap airbubbles at idle). Works pretty good, planning to install a dual fan setup i bought from Ramchargers as soon as i figure out how to wire it up.

1984 Z28 L69 with now re- installed electric fan. My car came (to me) with a ****ty belt driven fan without a shroud. That car overheated until just a month or so ago!( I have owned this beast for over 2 years now!!!) So I decided to get an electric fan and had to hook it up through a toggle switch. I didn't want to deal with knowing if the fan switch was going to kick in or not!! The car came from the factory with a single electric fan. Also, the A/C was ripped out of the car before I purchased it. (along with EVERY piece of emission equipment)

I own an '86 T/A with a 305 TPI. It currently has a single electric fan.

The most interesting thing is that the mount used on my T/A is the same mount used in my '83 Chevy X-11 Citation. I figured there would be a shroud in the T/A.

'84 T/A...L69 = Electric Fan (single)

that's not currently turning on properly (so the car runs just fine at 40mph and above...but if I dip below that for too long the heat guage approaches the red fairly quickly (and boiled my coolant over...gah!)

Sooo...mine might be getting a new fan...perhaps now's the time to install aftermarket dual fans. (Figure it's either the fan or the temp switch that's broken)

'84 V6 sport coupe, single belt driven clutch fan.

I dunno what you're trying to find here, but my experience (FWIW) has been that the "high performance" (L69 or TPI) '84-'86 cars got the single electric, while the rest got a belt driven fan.

the electric fan runs though the a/c compresser so it needs to be plugged in to complete the circuit

My 85 IROC-Z with a LG4 305 had a thermostatic mechanical fan, with a serpentine belt.
Where is a good place to buy new air dams for under the car?
Is there a better dam available that will send more cool air toward the rad?

I got this when clicking on the link in the first post...

Invalid Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator

I have an 84 Trans Am, L69 with a single electric fan. Normally runs around 195-200 degrees but if I am on the highway at 70mph it runs more around 230-240 or so. I have the Air dam, but I also have the GTA front end which means no additional air is getting to the radiator. Only what the Air Dam can pull through.

I just recently purchased a be-cool radiator and a 160 themostat that I intend to put in this weekend. We'll see if it can make it run a little cooler.

Fan goes on around 200 degress and shuts off around 180. However...this is a common problem (unfortunately) with these camaros we love. I have the same problem right now and after replacing all of the relays I had to give in and hardwire a toggle switch to my fan to control it manually

Sooo...mine might be getting a new fan...perhaps now's the time to install aftermarket dual fans. (Figure it's either the fan or the temp switch that's broken)
IF you get one of those fan switches from Jet that turns your fan on earlier, it will help keep that from happening. I got one for my 84 T/A L69 and it helped keep the temp down below that magic 260 mark. However...in the mountains here of New Mexico, I still over heat really bad going up. So I wound up getting a new Radiator from BECOOL anyway.

An update...

I got the new radiator in and working. I LOVE IT! The car warms up now to just over the first hash mark on the temp gauge! When cruising on the Highway it will creep up a little, but never even gets close to the half way mark (What is that, 220*?). I didn't put the 160 thermo stat in because well...I couldn't get the housing off without breaking the bolts so I left the stock 195. I also put a Jet Performance fan sensor in that turns the fan on at 185*. The fan kicks on just about the time the car gets to max operating temp, so I'm running right about 185* or so when the engine is fully warm. I am extremely happy! YAY!

84 Trans-Am L69 H.O 305, single thermo, did these have shrouds? coz mine didn't.
Installed twins out of a wrecked jap car and a custom stainless Air-Dam, she runs at 160 moving to 180 stationary now and that's on a 37'C day with a gutted Thermostat so it would be better with a little more restriction in the flow.

Re: If you own an '84, '85 or '86>>

85 and up camaros came standard with electric fans. If you have an 85 and up with a belt driven fan someone else put it there.
