Question about "Total Fan Control"

Okay...so I downloaded Willie's article on 1984-1992 F-Body Electric Cooling Fan Specs and Mods...

The article I'm referring to is for single fan apps. The car in question is a 1985 IROC , originally a LB9 car ( 305 TPI ) w/ AC.

In it, he states "...the fan is controlled mechanically through an in-cyliner head thermal switch...." Then later .. " ..there is no ECM control for the fan on single fan applications..."

Dumb question...but how is this possible? Since my IROC does NOT have a fan swithc / sensor in the passenger cylinder head, or anyplace for that matter. And the single fan works fine, although it does get to about 220 or so before it kicks on. I don't have any overheating trouble either.

Am I missing something here?

Just inquiring, since I'm adding dual fans shortly, and with my luck I'm sure this would affect the install somehow.

Anybody else with 85-86 LB9 cars that have single fans and no switch for the fan?

Thanks
