I want to throw in an electric fan system, and possibly an electric water pump, into my '82 Firebird Trans Am to replace the stock fan. I can't spend too much for it, so I figured I would head to a junkyard to get the parts I need. Is there anything specific I should look for, and what would be everything I would need?

I assume you have a belt driven unit. First thing from the boneyard is the fan and mounting assembly. It will be a complete unit if you are lucky. Next you will need a fan relay, relay socket and fan temp switch. The switch will ground internally at specified temp and then the relay coil gets grounded on one side for it to energize. There will be a fair amount of wiring involved, if you are not handy or comfortable with it you might want to consider an aftermarket electric fan kit. They will come with full instructions for various applications. It's not a superproject, but you will need to get familiar with how to properly hook it up.

Is there any specific car I should look for at the junkers, or should I just look for a newer firebird with a dual fan system?

Any TG camaro or 'bird dual fan setup should work. Get a wiring diagram, cause you will need to do a fair amount of rewiring.

word of warning, stay away from electric water pumps for street use, they are for racing only. they are not designed to run the amount of time it would have to on the street.
