single core radiator??

When I pulled the radiator out of my (red) 86 IROC (TPI and 700r4) it had a single core radiator in it. I couldn't believe it. I haven't checked the black 86 IROC (TPI/700r4) yet. The black car only runs at correct temp. (within 5 degrees of normal) when the weather is cold. My 83 Z28 on the other hand, has similar set up, never seems to get "too" warm but we replaced the radiator several years back with an aftermarket 2 or 3 core radiator (don't remember exactly). Is a single core radiator factory stuff or did someone put a cheaper one in this car before I bought it?

all thirdgens came with aluminum core plastic end radiators with one single 1 inch core

the reason the 83 seams to stay cooler is because of the clutchfan because on my buddys 84 firebird it does the same thing
