i swapped my tpi iroc to a carb and i put in a new radiator and a new water pump i have a brand new radiator to thermostat hose. the car keeps overheating. to me it seems like there is not enough water flow. i have put plenty of antifreeze in and i used 50/50. the radiator is full and i even put some in the intake where the thermostat goes. today i took the car to the track for an f-body event. i didnt race but on the way back the car overheater. i say the gauge start going up and i shut it off but kept the ignition on so the fans would stay on. at one point it went up over 260 but it came down some. then i got it to cool out and headed back to the house and it did fine stayed right under 200 and then when i turned the car off the temp started going up. but when i take the cap off and run the engine it seems to cool down to a decent temperature. but on the way up there and on the way back it seemed fine for a long time then just all of a sudden the temp jumped up it was strange b/c it was running right around 190 the whole way back and then just all of a sudden it started jumping up really fast.
the thing that gets me is that the radiator hose from the radiator to the thermostat when you squeez it it doesnt feel like it has much water flowing through it but all the heater lines do. but the radiator hose does feel hot like it has had some flow through.
btw i forgot to mention today i didnt run a thermostat to try and keep the temp. down some. last night it was overheating too and i hoped this would help it out some.
if someone could give me some opinions/advice i would really appreciate it.
EDIT: i guess after thinking about it some more it seems like when i was going down the road at a good speed it was doing fine but when i pulled into the neighborhood and had to stop at the stop sign right after that is when it started acting up. and when i got home and turned the car off the temp started jumping up right after i turned it off.

I had that problem in my last camaro(I changed all that too).It was a flat lobe in the cam...I dont know how, but when I fixed it..no more overheating...

well that doesnt make me feel very good.... but i doubt that is the problem anyone else?
are your fans working correctly I changed the relays on my fans and when i drove it stop getting past 210 stayed at 210-190and that was mine just my 2 cents
the fans are working they come on with the ignition. also i think i fixed the problem it hasnt overheated since but we will see. i was also thinking an air pocket so i filled the radiator with the car running and it didnt help.
what did you do to fix it if it wasnt the air pocket
well.... when i finished up the car i didnt tighten the distributor all the way down, so i could adjust the timing. it wasnt loose at all but i did not tighten it all the way down and when i got down hard on the gas the distributor was moving and throwing off my timing. i think that is what fixed it. i still am running no thermostat and the temp is right around 180 so i hope when i put a thermostat in it the temp wont climb too high. but i think there was an air pocket i think that might have been some of the problem but i fixed that first and it was still overheating but it hasnt got over 200 degress on me since so i guess its alright.
