Mechanical temp gage install HELP

My factory temp gage is dead in my 86 T/A WS6 305 TPI. I bought a aftermarket gage but where do I put the probe ?

in the intake manifold (next to t-stat housing) or on the side of the drivers side head. Either will work. Mines in the manifold...

The only electrical connections you will have to make are the ones for the light inside the gauge.

Would the sender unit have to be changed as well, if one has a dummy light cluster setup?
