Is My Car Running To Cold?

Hey guys, I have an 89 IROC, 305 TPI, when I changed the cam I removed the A/C condensor and took about an inch off my air dam. Its getting cold here in New England now, but even when it was 70+ out the car would normally stay around that 1st un-number line on the temp gauge, I figure this is around 170*. I say that because it will raise a tad tad bit and then drop(thermostat opening which is a 180*). So my question is, is 170* to cold for it to be running at? It never has run hot, its always liked to run around there, even in the summer. Thanks. James

170 is a great temp to be running at. when my water pump went i replaced it with a edelbrock victor and mine runs at about 140 or 150 no with no problem

Re: Is My Car Running To Cold?

I'm fine with 170, but I don't think I'd want it to stay under 160. Unless the programming of the computer has been changed, it will likely be trying to warm the motor up constantly if it is so low which I would gues is around 160-170. Even with a carb. that wouldn't be so touchy to running temps like that, under 160 probably wouldn't be as efficient as say 170-180.
