I have a weird antifreeze leak that is behind the block. It looks like it is leaking from the driver side behind the block and leaking on top of the transmission. I looked around the lower intake and it is dry as a bone. The heater hoses look good and dry as well. I recently put headers on and removed the AIR tube that goes behind the head. I'm sure I screwed the studs back in tight and I doubt the stud holes have anything to do with a cooling passage but I could be wrong. Are there anykind of freeze plugs on the back of the block? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes, there are two, I believe. One is a freeze plug(2.170 o.d.) and one is a 1/2 inch hex plug.

There are two freeze plugs on the back of the block, but they're inside the bellhousing.

How about the rear coolant passage between head and intake. Look really carefully at those heater core hoses.

Yeah I guess it wouldn't be a freeze plug if they're inside the bellhousing because it looks like it's leaking on top of the transmission. Is that rear coolant passage a line or is it just between the lower intake and the head? I'll push some wires out of the way and see if I can get a better look at everything back there. Thanks for the help.

No its not a hose. Its between the intake and head. I'm not to sure this is a common occurance, but it's possible if there has been a history of over heating or the intake was removed and not installed correctly at some time.
I had a crack in my thermostat housing and the water ran from front to back. It was easily traceable though. The coolant house leak especially the lower one coming out of the firewall (heater core) was not easily traceable and tricked me into thinking one of the rear freeze plugs leaked because it dripped onto the bell housing, ran along the housing, collected inside, and then dripped onto the ground. From underneath it looked like it was coming out of the bell housing. My long winded point is it sometimes takes some real sluething to find the source.

I think I'll give the heater hose another very careful look. Yeah the intake has never been off since the factory put it on, so I'll give that a another careful look too. I think I might pull the distributor to get a good look at what's going on back there. Yeah I know how easy it can be to overlook the obvious. Thanks for the help. I'll post my findings as soon as the weather reaches double digits!
