Coolant Leaking inside the camaro on the passenger side when using the defrost!!!!
I need help this is a serious problem because we all know its winter time and my windows are so fogged i cant see in front of me so my defroster works but im leaking Engine Coolant inside the car on the passenger side floor I have no idea how this could happen and what can I do to stop it from leaking ??? And another problem is that when i lose so much of my coolant my car gets real hot to the point where it can overheat... I have a 1985 Camaro Berlinetta V8 305
Re: Coolant Leaking inside the camaro on the passenger side when using the defrost!!!
Yep, swap it out and you'll be golden. It (the heater core) hooks up to the heater hoses in the engine bay, so the only way it can leak into the cabin is if the core itself has sprung a leak (which yours has).

Oh yeah its a pain in the *** job for sure as I got to do mine still but Ill wait till spring before I tackle it as the car isnt going anywhere in the snow.
Re: Coolant Leaking inside the camaro on the passenger side when using the defrost!!!
yeah its a PITA. it dosent hurt to flush your rad while your at it. But, taking it out is the easy part. just get a few 1/4 inch extensions and you will be fine. the hard upper left screw is easy when you pull off the top dash cover so you can get two hands on it. Most of the screws are all the same for the dash. Instaling it is the hard part. getting it through the firewall with out bending the hoses badly. The core will run you about 20 to 30 bucks at a napa or autozone. good luck!

thnx i changed it yestaday it took me some hours by myself pulling the whole dash off and hoses to the heater core was hard to take off den installing the new one was a b*tch den putting thw whole dash back it was a process i also drained my rad and coolant reservior it seems like i fixed it reved the engine to gt it warm wit the defroster on high so it seems A1 today i will test drive to make sure of no leaks
Re: Coolant Leaking inside the camaro on the passenger side when using the defrost!!!
Kind of sounds like an issues im having.......... the inside of my car gets full of steam/smoke and my windows get SUPER fogged up and you can smell coolant inside, guess ill have to check the passenger floor......
Re: Coolant Leaking inside the camaro on the passenger side when using the defrost!!!
If anyone is ever so broke to the point where you cant afford a heater core or need a temporary fix, just remove both hoses and connect them with a union.
Re: Coolant Leaking inside the camaro on the passenger side when using the defrost!!!
There is really no reason to remove the dashboard. I changed mine in about a half an hour. You just need to remove the kick panel and use a 6" ratchet extension. There is only one tough bolt. It's the upper middle one. Just slide the extension in there and you can guide it with your other hand. When you put the bolt back in use a little chewing gum or whatever to hold the bolt onto the socket and set it back in. Here's a crude drawing.
