Heater blower motor? or possibly fan
So my problem is that my heater wont blow. It gets hot you can feel it if you put your hands close to be but it wont blow out. Same when its on defrost it only defrosts the very bottom of the windshield but doesnt blow. Could it be the blower motor or do i have another problem?
**also** its my gf's car and she took it in earlier this year to get some work done (before i started dating her lol) and the mechanic said it was the heater fan blades causing the problem. said there was all kinds of gunk stuck on it keeping the fan from turning. He wanted $200 to clean it off. Is that possible or was he just trying to make some extra money?? Thanks

turn the ign switch on and turn on the fan and you should be able to hear it running. if it isn't, check fuses first then you may need a meter to check for voltages to the fan and/or the fan itself, and $200 for compressed air and about 20 minutes of work....ouch.

Re: Heater blower motor? or possibly fan
i took the blower motor and fan out and the fan was a little dusty but nothin bad (cleaned it anyways) i did take a look at the actual blower motor and there was alot of dirt inside of there is that normal or what? Never seen it like that before so I have no clue. I took my air compressor and blew out all that i could before hooking everything back up to see if it helped any.
no luck. i can hear the motor spinning so that seems to be working but inside the car i can barely feel the air being blown out, and its blowing about the same amount of air on every seting (defrost, heater, etc) i can hear a difference in speed when i change it so thats ok. where should i look next or could it still be a problem with the motor? thanks

the squirrel cage may be loose from the motor shaft or the diverter may be stuck.

May have a vacuum supply problem to the selector switch for floor, vent, defrost which might cause it to blow out all three at the same time & not very well. Check for vacuum lines off of vacuum motors by removing panel under dash on pass side & look for movement on any vacuum door levers when you move selector from vent to heater to defrost. If you see no movement on any of them, you may have a vacuum line off that supplies the selector switch. Check vacuum lines along driver's side fender that run down to vacuum reservoir (round plastic ball) under drivers fender towards front infront of wheel. The only other thing I can think of is if the car has sat out of service for a long time like my step sons car, we had a mouse nest in the duct work and had to remove the heater box to clean out the mess. Also, we removed the cowl vent plastic grill where air comes in to the heater box & cleaned out leaves from being parked under a tree alot.

Re: Heater blower motor? or possibly fan
the diverter door is located in the heater box itself & is operated by a vacuum motor as i listed in my previous post. Do not waste time messing with the cable on the heater box as all it is is for hot/cold selector and is not related to the problem you are having.

Ok so i got under the dash to check all the hoses and found one that wasnt connected at all. one end was connected but it wasnt attached to the box (it was struffed up in there like someone had disconnected it on purpose) so i got that all connected again and im hoping that'll solve my problem. the squirrel cage was cracked so im picking up another one tomorrow just to be on the safe side. You guys think its gonna work now? Thanks for all the help by the way.
