89 Camaro OVERHEATS!! fans wont turn on

I have a 89 camaro with the 305 TBI and 5 speed. I have replaced the fan motor and the coolant temp sensor on top of the intake manifold but the fan still wont come on. I ran the a/c today and the fan will come on then. I dont want to run the a/c all the time just to try and keep the motor cool. I know this is a common problem so what else could be causing it??? I do NOT want to wire up a toggle switch as I think thats just to ******* and plus it looks like I gave up and put a band aid on the problem instead of fixing it. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

There is a cooling fan switch in the pass. side head in between #6 and #8 spark plugs. It controls the fan on your single fan set-up. It might of went bad or the wire became disconnected. Its common that the connector melts or gets disconnected. Try looking there.

Are you sure its not on the drivers side? It looks like there is a wire that goes under the manifold and connects to some thing.

The one on the driver side in between the #1 and #3 spark plugs is the temp gauge sender. There is a cooling fan switch on the pass. side in between the #6 and #8 spark plugs. Its hard to see and can be hard to get to.

Re: 89 Camaro OVERHEATS!! fans wont turn on

Noah, just let it warm up to about 235 degrees, the switch will turn the fan on (if it's good and connected). This switch does NOT keep your engine running at 180 degrees, it's a switch to prevent overheating so it kicks in much later.
Lots of my TBI friends complained about their engines "not cooling" but once I tell them to let the car heat up to 235, they saw the fan kick in and they said "hey, it does work".

Hope this helps.
Lou

The car gets way above 235 and the fan does nothing. It will actully start spewing anti-freeze if you don turn it off. I'm going to try and replace the sensor on the pass side and see if that makes a diff. Thanks.

They make aftermarket sensors that will turn on the fan at 180* instead of the 236*
Make sure you trace the wire as far as you can. It can easily burn through on the exhaust manifold, especially if you have headers. Make sure your cooling fan solenoid is working. It's on the driverside firewall. You can test the solenoid by turning your ignition to "on" then take the wire off the sensor thats on the passenger side and ground it. You should be able to hear the sensor click each time you ground the wire.
