firebird nose cooling ductwork

I noticed the other day while at the junkyard, that the car i was robbing parts from has plastic ducting inside the front nose that seals up the area in front of the radiator and directs the air through it as opposed to out the sides through the bumper and headlight openings.

My 86 doesn't have any of that, and i noticed my 92 does.

Does that ducting make that much of a difference in cooling? my 86 runs a bit hot and wondering if this will help? Right now im guessing all the air that my air dam directs to the radiator blows around the side and into the fender.

Re: firebird nose cooling ductwork

i would think that yes it will help. it directs the air. on the tpi cars it allows air for the intake. but on the tbi like mine it is all closed in

Re: firebird nose cooling ductwork

it would seem that way. I dont know if it would work in my car because of some work i have done, but the plan was for a while to have a friend of mine make some panning out of aluminum, seal it all together with the nose and everything.

as for the intake, birds breath from the fender, they dont have room for the camaro style TPI intake that runs over the radiation support and down through the bumper support.

Re: firebird nose cooling ductwork

My 87 TA does have that duct work you're talking about. But I might remove it soon because I need to figure out how to mount an intercooler...
