Tranny Cooler Question

So, soon my yearly customize and tuningtime will start (winter).
this year i will also install a tranny cooler.
i also wanīt to remove all the AC crap. But now iīve got an idea when i looked at all, would it be possible to convert the original AC cooler into a tranny cooler? the work would be no problem for me, but i donīt know if the AC cooler is able to cool the oil. are there some filters in the cooler or some stuff that would stop or blockade the oil flow?

thanks for all infos

Re: Tranny Cooler Question

I thought about doing that but figured it wasn't worth the bloked air flow on the radiator. I tossed my A/C condencer.
I went out to advanced auto parts and bought the smallest transmission cooler they had for about $30 and mounted in line with but after (flow wise to) the stock radiator cooler inside the radiator and phyically mounted it with ADAL clamps where it would have good air flow.
Considering most transmissions are killed by heat its money very well spent.

Re: Tranny Cooler Question

A/C condenser will work as tranny cooler, but is way
oversized for that purpose-you want the tranny fluid
warm enough to flow well, but under 230*or so for max
tranny life.

Re: Tranny Cooler Question

thanks.
i know that most trannys are killed by to hot oil. and thats the reason why i will install a cooler for the oil. do you think the big cooler will take to many cool air away for the engine cooler?
at my caprice i installed allready a b&m cooler, but you have to know, here in austria where i live there are many mountains and the oil get very hot from the up and down driving at the mountains.

i think i will convert it and install also a..whats the word in english?.. oil-o-meter? you know, to controll the oil temp, donīt know the word

Re: Tranny Cooler Question

if used as a tranny cooler, the A/C condenser will will add
a little bit of heat to the engine radiator, but the amount
will be less than the A/C adds when the A/C is operating
A tranny temperature gauge is a good addition if you do
any hard driving, also an engine oil cooler is a good item
to have too,in order to keep the engine oil around 220-
240*F -some thirdgens have a factory oil cooler cooled
by engine coolant.

Re: Tranny Cooler Question

The dual fans go behind the radiator. Tranny cooler is in front. I have both.
