Clear coolant hoses?

http://www.killerglass.com/store/images/hemi2.jpg

I had seen this when I was looking over a few nitrous things on google, and was woundering is this stuff that will hold up on the drag track or is the "stuff for show only" I know that regular coolant hoses have the fibers weaved into them giving then a strong body but just wanted some opinions on here before doing any thing

Re: Clear coolant hoses?

opinion #1: Don't use glass for coolant hoses that need to flex. Not even if it's only for a short section. If you want shiny show room material, use stainless braided hoses.

Re: Clear coolant hoses?

I have seen clear hose used on different cars. Lowe's & Home Depot should have some in the plumbing dept. You will be limited to bends and size and I dont know how well it will hold up.

Nor do I know what purpose the hose is used, but you can buy it by the foot.

Re: Clear coolant hoses?

Well one thing I know, well found out by trying, my next door neighbor his son had his old plowing truck over, bad coolant line *dam* so where to find some pipe? O why not try garden hose plenty extra laying around from other various projects? Not thinking about what temp is put onto it well it melted off but I think he was home because not a big deal was made of it

So I don't know if they put the heat rating on the hose?
I’m sure they might have some?

haha beer bong hoses. The glass hose only needs to withstand 20psi i think. if its Pyrex, then its should work. I could stand on a upside-down Pyrex 9X12 baking pan and not break. I dont know if these tubes would stand to forces.

Re: Clear coolant hoses?

Do a search on "Clear Vinyl Tubing". Im sure most is not for high temp use and could collaspe without a inner spring. You might try search under the brand Dayco.

I have seen corrugated clear/white pipe used in the food industry. It is flexable and can withstand higher temps. You would be a to see the liquid color through it.

Re: Clear coolant hoses?

you may think it's ok to use a glass fuel filter too since mr gasket sells them at auto zone and oreilys but they break, usually all over your motor. happened to me. glass has no place in the engine compartment. you may try to tighten the hose on it too much causing it to break or you may take it easy causing a loose connection.

Re: Clear coolant hoses?

No I did not say in a single word that I had agreed to using glass

Any ya I know that it could break that's why I asked about using some sort of hi-temp clear pvc like tube!

And not to mention, vibration can crack it, temp makes the glass more brittle and winter would make me nervous or even under freezing conditions! along with if you are using a track you’ve never yet experienced their are un expected bumps and some could be a bad landing!
