I'm a little confused by your control valve description.

The models I'm familiar w/ (90 & later) have 3 coolant
hose connections, and a small vacuum port connection.
One inlet, two outlets, with vacuum control of which
outlet is active. In combination with a T connector,
hot water is routed from an intake manifold output,
either through the heater core, or directly back to the
radiator. If your control valve has only 2 hose connections,
its either open or closed, and overall hose routing is
different. If you can post some pics of valve, and engine
compartment, I can probably help you recover.
