use 4th gen radiator shroud with LS1 dual fans???

For those of you who are using the LS1 dual fans, did you hack up the 3rd gen radiator shroud to fit the fans, or did you buy a 4th gen shroud? Or maybe I should ask if the 4th gen shroud even works first.

I went to install the LS1 fans I bought and hacked up the shroud when I realized how difficult the "simple" mod really was. I'm thinking about getting a 4th gen shroud if I see that others have had good experiences with them. Thanks!

you mean like these.

not sure how much room you have between the steering gear and the radiator. mine was a little tight so i had the space the motor in and modify the shround for the fan on that side

this was the first try to give you an idea. i have since gotten another fan shroud and redid it with smaller mods.

Re: use 4th gen radiator shroud with LS1 dual fans???

here i just trimmed the top piece that ended up fitting perfect.

here is a pic of where mine is close to the gear

on the top i used 1/8X3/4 strips to mount it.i bent them over the top of the radiator and put a screw in the back. and i have one strap on the bottom.

hope this gives you the answer you were looking for. i used a flexalite controller for mine. i suppose you have the harness already set up with a 6.0 swap. and man do they cool the car down to.

So is that a 4th gen shroud, because it kind of looks like how I chopped up my 3rd gen one haha. I am using the stock 3rd gen radiator too.

Re: use 4th gen radiator shroud with LS1 dual fans???

those fans came from a 2001 camaro. and that is my stock third gen radiator. as far as i know the third gen fans did not have a shroud. i know the lt1 cars and up had these shrouds.

The shroud I'm talking about is the black plastic piece that covers the top of the radiator and bolts to the frame. Is the one you're using from a 3rd gen or 4th gen?

ahh. that is the one from my third gen. i trimmed the piece off of it that held on my single fan. put them in buddy. they work great. i just wish that the left side fan was the one mounted higher.

Re: use 4th gen radiator shroud with LS1 dual fans???

I'm going to borrow a friend's radiator shroud from his LS1 car and see if it works. I have a feeling it might not, because I believe their radiators are shorter in length, but I will post up results regardless. If I have to do it the way you did it I will, but I was hoping to not have to use a hacked up shroud.

ls1 fans and radiator fit great.
i use a modified lt1 top piece to hold it all in like stock.
will need to modify for power steering.

will clear a manual box just fine.
