The single fan on my 86 TPI IROC refuses to come on. The car is all stock. The fuse is good. I have tested the fan motor, and it works when connected directly to a battery. I have replaced the CTS on the intake manifold, as well as the fan relay next to the radiator on the passenger side. The fan will also not come on as well when the AC is turned on. After reading some threads, it is my understanding that for 1986, the ECM turns the single fan on when the CTS sends a signal that the fluid temperature is 238 dregrees. Power is then sent from the ecm to the relay, then to the fan. Any ideas out there on why my fan is not coming on at all?
I found out why the fan was not coming on after changing the sensors and testing the fan. When mounted in the car, the fan was seizing against the fan shroud. I unfortunately had to modify the fan shroud, and the fan is now coming on at 238 drgrees, like it should. Hope this helps someone!
