ok so i bought my first camaro its a iroc-z with a 305 tune port injection the person who had it before me hacked the wiring up for the electric fan it turns on with the ignition and stays on . my question is some cars have a thermo sensor hookup where it activates the fan and it hooks up to the block. but they make a radiator probe type fan switch thats adjustable meaning i can set the deg. that i want the fAN to turn on. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HDA-3647/ is this going to work ok? im going to have the shop at the end of my road hook it up. its a 1986 iroc

That should work. Maybe pricier than figuring out what's wrong with the stock setup though.

autozone carrys the probe ones and i think they are a little cheaper too.
i know alot of people running them and they work awsome!

Pepboys has them too. The cheapest is about $18, but they didn't have it when I was there

Just chiming in too. I have the probe-type in my IROC, and it works great.

i once had to add a thermostat control to an'89 firebird
2.8 after someone fubared the original setup-used a
flex-a-lite thermostat control with sensing bulb and
capillary tube,removed the upper radiator hose,stuck
the sensing bulb into the hose,reinstalled the hose with
a little silicone to seal around the capillary tube,
connected switch to repaired wiring,and set fan turn on
temp.Simple,reliable,and adjustable-fixed!

where did you install the probe? Where in the radiator, top, middle? i have same problem wiring hacked and have spent days searching for the wires.

hey im also having alot of trouble with my fans. can yall elaborate more on how these fan switches work? and the pros and cons? i also own a 87, 305 5.0 iroc

I have spent 3 days under the hood of my 87 IROC. Here is what i found out hope it helps. 1st the cooling fan runs on a sensor in the engine, it sends a signal to the ECM which in turn starts the fan, (Cooling fan)I was under the impression that the water temp sensor and the sensor for the fan were one in the same but they are not. There are 2 sensors. If you are TPI One is in the engine block drivers side or passenger side depending on the engine. The one that sends signal through the ECM is right side if TPI intake near cold start sensor etc, 2 wire i believe black and yellow wires.
The 2nd fan A/C should come on when a/c is turned on, that is done through the pressure switches. Mine had 2 pressure switches one on back of compressor and one on right side runs along the cooling/heater hoses.
I can not get my 2nd fan to come on with the A/C so i have more trouble shooting to do. I also do not have anywhere near original equipment engine is a 327 with Carb intake, i have my hands full with this but i want the car to be operating as close to original as possible.
