91 camaro rs temp gauge question

hi i have a question i hope someone can help with. i have a 91 rs 305 tbi that runs great, does not overheat, but the water temp gauge remains at no reading, or at 100 (all the way left) even when warm. the gauge properly "pegs" high upon startup, but then returns to far left and does not move. I've been told a wire should be running to the front left side head where the apparent water temp sensor (for gauge operation) is. The sensor is in the head (has a pop rivit looking end to it) but the wire is not there. my question is HOW DO I FIND THE WIRE THAT IS APPARENTLY CUT FROM WHERE IT EXITS THE FIREWALL? the wire looms in this car are very clean. i expected to find the wire in the group of wires running down the passenger side intake (wires run to a/c, alt., water temp sensor for ecm, fan temp sensor in right side block, etc.) but there is no unused or cut wire. Where exactly in stock harness should i find it? HELP!!! Bob in NC

Re: 91 camaro rs temp gauge question

Hi Bob in NC! I'm in Cary (Raleigh area), where are you?

Wire should come out of the main harness that runs fromm driverside firewall connector over the back of motor/tranny to pass side - it should exit the loom at the rear of the driver head, and come forward over the intake to the sender in the driver head.

According to: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/mkport...uges_part4.gif

wire should be dark green
