Re: Question About the Thermostat Senor on LG4

The thermovacuum switch on the t-stat housing controls the vacuum to the EFE (Early Fuel Evaporation) valve between the passenger exhaust manifold and the y-pipe. When cold, it closes this valve to force exhaust gas through the intake manifold cross over passages to warm the intake charge.

Re: Question About the Thermostat Senor on LG4

The lower one in the pic is the TVS. It is broken off. The top of it would have a connection for two vacuum lines. One to the valve at the EFE and one to the vacuum source (usually tied into another line, not directly to the carb).

Your CTS (Coolant Temp Sensor) should have two wires going to it. It provides a temp reading for the computer. The pigtail on that appears to be broken? You may want to purchase a new connector pigtail (usually available in the HELP section at AZ or one of the others) and splice it in. If the CTS is broken, a new one usually comes with a connector-check the box.

Well, maybe swinging by Autozone isn't a simple solution, but you should be able to find the connector and/or CTS on-line, if you need one. You can live without the EFE unless you experience some really cold weather driving.
