730/727 system does not starte with CTS unplugged?

I noticed that the 730/727 system will not run with the CTS sensor unplugged. Can anyone explain? I have no reason to have it unplugged, just curious.

With the CTS unplugged the ECM will see a full cold engine (-40°C). It will be very rich until the ECM decides the CTS is bad and switches to a default value.
