Will a computer from a 90 5L TBI work with my 88 5L TBI?

F-body to f-body, no, your '88 won't have the VATs equipment required for the '90 ECM. You will get a crank, but no start condition.

I need to replace my computer, I was told it is causing problems.
Do I need to find one of the same year and exact engine for it to work.. or what should I look for? Thanks.

Pretty much. The '88 TBI was a one year only ECM, the '8063. Find one from an f-body (Camaro or Firebird) that has the same trans type (stick or auto) and you are good to go.

If you can't find one where the trans matches, move the PROM from your current ECM to the new ECM. The PROM contains the calibration information.
