I am starting to wire up my first DIY injection system, and need some help. I have a new Hewlett Packard laptop, with the athlon processor which I will be using for my tuning. I also am going this weekend to a junkyard in zanesville that is littered with blazers,cav's and thirdgen/fourthgen cars. I am going to try and pickup about $300 worth of ECM's. I work at a GM dealership here in Cambridge, so I do have access to the TECI and TECII scan tools. ALso many new wire connectors and new pins and such.
1. I have the adapter cable for my laptop but it is for OBDII. Can I start gathering the OBDII connectors and rewire them (from what I;ve read, most of you use the Old style square connector), but since my adapter has the new I would like to use it?
2. I am going to gather up 1227730 and 1227749 ECM's, are there any others that will work that I could grab?
Pick up 7727's if you see any. Look for 90-92 V6 cars like Beretta's and Regal's etc. It's the weatherproof version of the 7730, perfect for mounting in the engine bay.
You can use any kind of connector you want, as long as the wires all go where they need to.
Ok, I got some puters. There are a TON of mid eighties to mid nineties buicks, lumina's, regals, cav's, blazers there. Ifound a list on this site and printed it off for computers to get, but alot of the cars that were listed did not have the same number as what the list said. Some were remans,some weren't.
Now the biggest thing I noticed was that some of them are two plug while others have the three plugs. What is the difference? I got a couple from 86 and 88 Camaro's w/v8, and those looked very similar to the ones that are in blazers. They are all 2 plug. The one from the cavalier (88z24) has three plugs, and the ones from the Lumina's have 3 plugs.
I did snag 1 black 4 plug from a 98-00 Vortech Suburban. I would like to use it on my S10 Blazer v8 conversion.
I didn't see any 7749's and 7727's. There were a lot of regals and other w/n body cars there, but they all have the 3 plug harness's. After seeing the one's that I pulled out of the Camaro's, they are totally different looking, so I stopped getting them. I couldve gotten probably 20 of them.
Does anyone have a list of ALL the computors that will work, I checked around at work and one of the OLDer mechanics said the 7730 was used alot, from F/S chevy trucks to cars. I did not see this on the list from this website however. Could anyone verify?

The '7730 is the standard inside-mount speed-density computer. It was used on all kinds of stuff.....from the 2.0 Tempest to the L98 Camaro. The '7727 is it's weather-proof sister (for engine bay mounting.....you won't find it under any dashes.) The '7727 is black and has 4 square "weatherpack" connectors instead of the typical 2 or 3 long connectors.
The 3-plug Cavy ECM should be a '7730, and the 2-plug ones are '165 MAF ECMs most likely. If it's an aftermarket replacement it'll have a different part number, but it should still have the GM number on a label somewhere.
Anything is useable, it's just a question of what it can be used for. That said, I can't find that number in my cross-reference. What did it come out of? If it has a removable PROM it can be hacked and subsequently tuned and adapted. It's just a question of how much of the work has already been done.
