tuner pro seems to be a useless program

ok, so I wired up my aldl port to work with my new tpi setup. I go to connect with the ecm with the key turned forward to on and it won't connect. I supposedly have the right file to read the 730 ecm and before I switched I had to set it to com 4 with winaldl and I would get readings. now with tunerpro I get nothing!!!! I am really starting to hate this program. the only thing I have not tried is trying to connect with the engine running. my dist. is not in right so it doesn't want to run at this moment. all I want to do is make sure that when I get it running I can read my sensor data. I am thinking of finding a diff program cause this just doesn't seem to work. if you have any ideas please help me out here.

Are you sure you have tuner pro set for the correct port # in the preferences settings. Also make sure you have the ADS file setup in the aldl setup page.Maybe test your cable on a friends running car to make sure your cable actually works. Im using tuner pro to datalog with an autoprom so i know it not a completely worthless program.
