CE light is on all the time, will not flash code 12.
Checked all the wiring.
When you disconnect the ECU. CE light goes out.
Book says its the ECU or the Memcal.
Anyone with experence with this problem to know if its the ECU or the Memcal?
When the key is first turned to the on position the lamp should illuminate then briefly blink off then back on once then remain lit (without the diagnostic terminal being grounded). This all happens within the first second of the key being turned to the on position. If this blink doesn't happen the ECM is operating in limp home mode and there is likely something wrong with the ECM. You can try removing and reseating the MEMCAL in case there is a bad connection. You can also try tapping on the ECM and see if the lamp goes out or blinks, which would indicate a bad ECM. Other than that you pretty much need to try another ECM.
ok here is the deal. i have the issue with the cel. car still runs and it cannot be in limp mode because it would die. the memcal is tuned for a 305 and i am running a 388 with 19# injectors. i have a custom prom installed to compensate. the car wouldnt idle before the prom change. i have tried a different ecm same deal. tried different memcal and prom same deal. any ideas are welcomed
There is a go/no go flow chart in the factory manuals to check out the wiring 4 the CEL if you really believe the ECM is ok. It is a very simple procedure to check the wiring.
The problem with mine was that it was in the limp home mode due to a faulty chip that i guess lost part of its program.
The Memcal was ok, but the actual chip has a problem.
ok so now i am thinking the ecm is bad. but why when i change it do i still get the same result? i have checked everything else i think its odd i get the exact same result. is there a portion of the memcal that could be bad which would make it go into limp mode??? cause i have the moates zif adaptor and no matter what i program the chip same deal
So let's review-
Are you telling us that you have 2 separate computers, but only 1 Memcal that you are switching between the 2 computers?
If that is the case then i would get another Memcal and try that.
The problem i had was in my actual "Chip" part of the memcal, when i went to the NVSRAM which bypasses the chip the computer worked fine.
Did you do the wiring check in the above flow charts?
i went to the junk yard today and just for s n g's i grabbed a memcal from a corsica. i put it in and there it was codes. or at least the handshake. so i am trying to figure out if there is a way to write a chip for that memcal so i can use it until i get the new one in a few weeks. it is addx 1657

Will the car run on that memcal?
I think you would have to put in a replacable chip socket in that memcal to be able to change the chip.
what do you mean? i have the moates g1 adapter and a eprom burning device. so i have tried other chip programs could it be that i am doing something wrong with my chips???
Yes its possible you are doing something wrong in the chips. But with the G1 adaptor, or with any kind of chip burning for a V8, you need to have a V8 chip and MEMCAL on there. One from a Corsica is not a V8 and will not work.
