Ordered megasquirt 2, any other users here?
Who else here has played with MS 2? I have a few questions I cant seem to get answered on the other forums..

did you assemble your own? I have a question about the db37 ( I think ) connector, the main one that plugs into your engine harness. on the harness side, do you solder the wires into the plugs or is there a trick to sticking wires in it?

I did assemble my own. I actually bought the 12 inch db-37 harness from DIY. If you use the one that comes with the megasquirt, solder the wires. Make sure that you use all the ground wires and then twist them together after the pins to make one good ground wire.

Thank you, could you elaborate on the fuel injector wiring, I know there are only 4 wires for the 8 injectors, do 2 injectors go into each Pin hole?

Re: Ordered megasquirt 2, any other users here?
There are two "banks."
Each bank takes two wires (the wires and pins are too small individually to handle the injector current, so two are used and joined together)
Here is the external wiring diagram.
You can wire up the injectors as passenger/driver side banks (like me) or by firing order.
It doesnt really make a difference.
So, if you choose to wire it the way I did, all the passenger side injectors are one bank, and all the drivers side injectors are the other bank

Re: Ordered megasquirt 2, any other users here?
I almost have my ms2 v 3.0 running. Im guessing you guys are using another option for ignition? I had my dad (electrical engineer 35 yrs) make the hardware changes on a DIY assembled unit.
Mine is in a 66 vette, and I bought the other connectors from efi connection.
So hopefully, as soon as I can get the headers done (Im building them) it should be runnning, hopefully around the end of teh month.

I'm using the megasquirt to control ignition as well.

Thats what I plan to do, I think its pretty straight forward wiring from the HEI however right?

Re: Ordered megasquirt 2, any other users here?
Yes, it is not too bad at all.
If you use the 8 pin module be aware that there is an incorrect resistor value that will really screw you up.
If you are, let me know and I will elaborate further.

MS 2, V3.0 as well.
Still running with the stock ignition, but I keep losing modules. Mine only last anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months for some reason.
I'm curious about the resistor error though. Just to see if it could affect my 7-pin HEI setup.

Re: Ordered megasquirt 2, any other users here?
It could possibly... What ignition capture are you using ?
This only applies if you are using the hall circuit. The vr circuit should be fine.
Does the module test "bad" on a machine?

Re: Ordered megasquirt 2, any other users here?
I thought I was on ls1 tech when I asked about the ignition....I have an ls1 in my vette, so I thought (at the time) that we were talking lsx engines. Sorry.
I hope to have ms2extra running my ls1 shortly anyhow.

Re: Ordered megasquirt 2, any other users here?
I am using the hall circuit.
Yeah, they test bad on the machine. These modules are getting cooked somehow, and I've yet to figure it out. My max dwell is very appropriate for my setup.
I'm beginning to think it's a design problem with the ignition. Every HEI ignition I've ever owned has burned through modules. Even though I have been cleaning off the old "heat-sink" grease and applying new stuff every time.

Re: Ordered megasquirt 2, any other users here?
It very well could be.
Ifyou keep burning through the modules, I would use the module to fire an external coil driver. That would keep the module from heating up.
As for the resistor value, it mostly deals with "losing" signal on hot days, which was very very frustrating until i figured it out.

Re: Ordered megasquirt 2, any other users here?
I finally got everything I need this weekend. I also got the computer assenbled and ready to go, hopefully. I now have it communicating with the computer also, so the stinulator is working well. How is everyone else going to run the system. I am completeing getting read of the TPI wiring and just using the megasquirt and relay board. So now I have wiring fun to deal with. How is everyone else using their megasquirt system. By the way I am using an 8pin so any info on that would be great. THanks

I made a harness out of an old TPI harness.
