So, finally pulled my car out after this long winter, battery was dead and car was giving me a hard time starting with a jump or with a jumper box. i decided to goto autozone and have them test the battery. Had to shut my car off for them to test it, it wouldn't start after he tested my battery(tested good btw). So he brings out this tiny cordless booster box, i just laughed and told him that is not gonna turn my engine over and it wouldnt. So he pulls his lil honda civic next to my car to jump it.
Now normally i wouldn't let someone i don't know touch my car, but i live in Cleveland, ohio and he had an OTC(ohio technical college) jacket on and all he was gonna do is hook up some jumper cables.... but the idiot goes and reverses positive and negative between the 2 cars and normally i like fireworks, just not when they're flying out from under my hood. Now my car runs funny and i cant figure out what is wrong.
So my question is could this have fried my ECM?
Also i can get an ECM out of an 88 GTA to swap with mine to see if it runs any better will the ECM out of the 88 work in my 86? both are 305TPI cars.
I gave a guy a jump in amherst the other day and as soon as i poped the hood he was in there and the dumb @ss revesed it and sparks flew every where.... almost punched him but my car ran fine after so i wasent that made just mext time i give some one a jump im connecting the cables!!
this may sound dumb but did you check the fuses? i was tightening my battey pole once and the wrenceh touch the ground side, and it had poped a fuse under the dash, forget which one
Went and got the ECM out of the 88 GTA. With my ecm in the car it starts and runs, when i put in the ECM out of the 88 it gives me code 46 and will crank but not start. I have no chip in the key to my car and the the code will not clear. Had it out of the car for 15mins or so and also unhooked the neg. side of the battery with the ECM in the car and it wouldnt clear either way. both ECM's are re-mans and have the same part number

That's bull**** I'd be goin back to autozone and let him know what he did. They're supposed to be competent people working there. Maybe they'll give you some credit atleast!
Definitely would have received some sort of credit or refund (his car for his mistake, worth about the same ).
That is why I will not go to a place such as autozone or advanced auto parts in Cleveland (I am also from there, or here..you know what I mean). Just because he had a jacket on (beat someone up and stole it) doesn't mean he graduated or passed in any way. This kind of ticks me off, because your out of a car sort of and he is fine and dandy.
Always approve anything before someone else does something to your car. Let them know that.

Competent people? HAHAHA thats hilarious!
at my local Autozone, they all have their heads up where the sun don't shine!
all except ONE guy, I'll always remember his last name, ******t haha
I'll tell you what though, if it were me I would'nt have even left the parking lot before doing a quick check to make sure everything was ok after a stupid move like that...
have you gone back and raised any form of hell?
maybe you can get them to make it right.

Did you swap your memcal into the 88's ECM, if not and if the 88 has VATS then its memcal will generate a code 46 in your car.
At least it happened on warm day, could have been like today!
Its back to snow again here for those of you in warmer climates.
You'd think he would have more sense than that.
why is it that most advance auto guys are dumb as a box of rocks. like with my local advance there is 1 guy i trust. (and he has this sweet late 80's vette i always drool at..) but it seems very typical..
here is some fun you can have at advance or auto zone
go to any one of them
tell em you need a Radiator
when they ask you what for say a 1972 volkswagen transporter (any motor) now most all of us know they are air cooled..... you should see them fools try to find the part.....or better yet ask for a thermostat for the same one, some know they are air cooled but aint bright enough to figure out the thermostat thing, watching them do that is almost as funny as putting a sign on the drive through at Mc D's that says "speak loudly having speaker problems" and then sitting in the parking lot watchin people scream at the box and the person inside is like WTF?!?!??!?! (see what living in a small town your entire life gets you)
i go to my local advance, look up my own parts go in the back and pull them myself to....they have got some rock stupid people working around here
Just because a person works at an autoparts store doesnt mean they know anything about cars or even own one so dont trust em. They dont even require a diploma. I just got fired from autozone for correcting my boss that he should take the negative terminal off before the positive when changing a battery.
Haha, I know what I'm doing tomorrow when I go to pick up some wheel bearings for my girls Bird.
hopefully mr. Mull ett is there so I can give him a hard time, lol.
I'd love to pick up a second job over at autozone over the summer, and piss off all the old guys that don't know anything about cars, nor proper customer service.
Try working in grocery, otherwise you don't have crap for CS experience.
Getting back on topic though, did you try and get any kind of reparation from them for being morons?
Hows the car running now?
