Weird 305 TPI problems w/EBL flash PLEASE HELP!!

I just had an EBL flash board installed in my PCM....converted to speed density...and now the car runs like absolute ****...had the guy at Dynamic EFI confirm that it wasn't in my tune...confirmed that my mechanical (valve) timing wasn't off...and still it won't idle...backfires out the exhaust, runs like it has a horrible misfire (brand new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor button)...over fuels (smokes and smells like fuel...soaking the plugs after just a couple minutes of running...could just be from ignition misfire) and will not accelerate through the RPM range at all...bogs like the timing is extremely unadvanced...but the timing on the tuning software still says 22* at idle which is about normal...the O2 sensor readings are right at or around 500mv....injector PW is right about 4-6ms....map sensor readings are super high (like with a misfire or vacuum leak)I have also confirmed no vacuum leak with a brake clean test and vacuum gauge readings are unconsistent because of the crazy rough idle....TPS readings are normal (fluctuate with throttle position)....but the KS sensor readings are jacked even though its overfueling and obviously not causing detonation...anyone with any ideas please get back to me...I need to get her running!! thanks guys

That PW is rather high, but it would go along with a high MAP value. If you have a mity-vac or something similar it would be worth checking that the MAP sensor is producing reasonable values. Can do this at key-on, engine-off.

With no vacuum applied the MAP value will be high. Basically at barometric pressure. Then as vacuum is applied it should drop.

Also check the CTS value. A bad CTS can easily flood the engine. Can use the WUD Diag display to see the raw (un-defaulted) sensor values (both MAP & CTS). After sitting overnight the CTS should be the same as the ambient temperature.

If you have a data log of the engine running please email it to me.

Re: Weird 305 TPI problems w/EBL flash PLEASE HELP!!

The MAP sensor seems to be functioning normally...key on, engine off the reading is really high..about 100 kpa....also the PW kicks up to like 12ms until I actually crank...CTS and IAT values are right about normal (ambient temperature)...the CTS is only about a month old...I'm a little confused about the MAP sensor readings...I'm used to reading them in volts output...(4.7 or so at WOT no vacuum and right about 1v at idle or closed throttle max manifold vac)...what am I looking for as far as good MAP sensor reading at idle? A low kpa value?

this is starting to hurt my head...it keeps fouling out plugs and the KS readings keep going nutso....I'll just try to get it to run long enough to get a datalog and email it to you Bobr....

The Diag display will show the MAP in ADC count's, volts, and KPa. 40 Kpa is about 1.6 volts. Which is a typical idle manifold pressure.

Note that the Diag display is the raw sensor values. Right from the sensors. The ECM can create default values which is what you will see on the main WUD display. These default values are created when the ECM thinks that a sensor is bad.

Which is why the Diag display should be checked when sensor(s) is suspect. Can also do playbacks of data logs and switch between displays.

The 100 KPa at key-on, engine-off is normal.

The PW you see pre-crank is also normal. The injectors won't fire until the distributor starts moving.

thats what I figured about the Key-on engine off readings with the MAP....also had a hunch that the injectors wouldn't start actually firing till it saw a signal from the pickup coil in the dist...thanks for verifying that...I'll check out that diag display while the engine is running and datalog that and make sure you get it....thanks again Bobr...I really appreciate the assistance..I'm new to the whole tuning thing...

I received and replied to your email with the data log. After reading the reply you can do playbacks of the same log and look at the various items I brought up. Also open the little malfunction display as you do this (ALT-D, M).

Please let us know what you find.
