Computer in 86 camaro

My 86 camaro has the computer in it to run TPI, but its carb right now. it seems to have originally come with TPI but some1 switched it to carb. I pulled the fuse box down yesterday to check something and the back of it half of the wires were melted/fried. which would explain alot of the problems ive had, so i will eventualy have to get a new wiring harness.

But i was wondering if there was anyway to check and see if the computer was still good in it, they are not currently hooked up of course. im thinking that the reason it is carb right now is they may have fried the computer and it was the cheapest fix.

Thank you for any info

Re: Computer in 86 camaro

If the ECM still gets battery & ignition power, check for the SES light to blink at key-on, engine-off. May need to install a SES bulb if it's been pulled out.

Otherwise the only other way to tell if the ECM is OK is to put it in another car and see how it runs.

Re: Computer in 86 camaro

thank you. ive just come up with 2 things, they blew the chips cause they were stupid, and carb was easiest fix, or they took the TPI off and just disconnected the computer to make it carb, and cant come up reason why they would do that.
