As he title says I am looking for a 5.7 chip for a 1228746 ECM and am having a terribly hard time locating one, what would you suggest I do to find one of these or should I just change out the ECM to one that is easier to find a chip for? Also will any 5.7 chip work in this ECM (like one from a 1228747) as long as its a TBI like the vortec engine I will be installing. Sorry for all these questions lately but I am kind of new to engine swaps with a car that is computer driven like this Camaro (last car I did a engine overhaul/swap on was a 1969 Dodge Super Bee). I am open to all suggestions on which would be best. Oh yeah my 1228746 has a 5.0 TBI chip in it right now
www.diyautotune.com sells an '746/'747 adapter board that will allow you to plug a megasquirt (MS) EFI controller directly into your factory harness. I have been running one for 18 months. It tunable using a laptop and no eproms to buy/erase/reprogram - the tuneup is saved in flash memory. Make a change and push the save to ECM button - done.

You will need a chip from a '8746 ECM. One from a different ECM won't work. The Caprice's ran 5.7l engines with the '8746 ECM. So a chip from one of them will work. MY of '89 through '91.

Yeah I didn't much figure it would, but I was tugging at straws here to try anything. I am in no big hurry or anything to locate one because we just picked up the Vortec engine yesterday and still have to rebuild it (doesn't really need it as far as I can tell but want to do some sort of project with the son) so its going to be awhile before we actually install it in the camaro so I have time to locate one somewhere but was just wondering what would be the easiest thing to do in this situation
well I found this one on eBay and I guess I could always use one of these if all else fails and I don't locate one at the time I need it http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HOT-C...Q5fAccessories If anyone see's any reasons why this will not work please let me know
Edit: wow I went to the website above and it looks like it is the same people I found on eBay, so I guess the one I posted should work. I see the ANLU are allot higher because there is no speed limiter or something on them when compared to the ones he has on eBay (atleast thats the only difference I see in the two)
This is a HOT performance chip for the service number 1228746 ECU used in GM Caprices,Camaros and Firebirds manufactured between 1989 and 1992 with TBI injection. It is a good chip for a stock TBI 350. I have this chip for either the 5spd or automatic transmission.
Sounds OK to me. I assume he made the appropriate changes for a lighter car. I assume you are using cop car injectors and cop car fuel pressure.
I just replaced the fuel pump with a high performance model and also have some 5.7 TBI injectors GM part number 5235206. If these aren't what I need I can always get the correct ones needed for this application before I do the whole swap
well this is a project so I guess when I get to that part I will figure out what I need at that time. I was just looking for suggestions on what I should be looking for to cause the least problems when that time comes. But if I can find injectors and ECU from a caprice cop car everything should work fine correct?
You alredy have a Caprice ECU GM 1228746. Now you need a chip for a 8746 with 5.7L engine L05 often called a cop car chip. that will get you started. As far as cop car injectors that would help as well. Alternative would be to increase fuel pressure on current injs to equal larger injectors.

So all I need is the knock sensor, chip, and a regulator of some sort to make the injectors I already have to work with the 350? If this is correct what type of regulator (or what ever it is called) would I need. If not by regulator or what ever how would I increase the fuel pressure in the injectors I already have. This is the only computer car I have ever done anything like this to so sorry if I don't know the correct terminology
To make your FPR adjustable do a search. You will need a stronger spring. Stock is good to about 13 lbs. To run over that(13 lbs) a stronger pump is required. KS change I believe is also recommended as frequency changes. I too have a less than perfect KS. I just found a less sensitive one to use.
