Hiya people, I have only had my 87 2.8 V6 3rd Gen a week and shes broken down on me, she has recently had an engine rebuild and was running great until 3 days ago when I wen to start her after 20 minutes and there is no spark..... ive fiddled with everything and still no spark, had distributer cap off and cleaned and check all the usual things, checked wiring, chcked all fuses and even swapped the coilpack for another.... and still no spark, I am desperate for any help or pointers as to what it could be, the car was fine 1 minute then just no spark 20 minutes later.

Re: NO SPARK SUDDENLY 1987 2.8 V6

Ninety-percent of the time this is caused by a dead ignition module. The other ten-percent of the time it is caused by a bad pickup coil. Both of these are in the distributor.

Of course it always pays to check the simple stuff first. Such as +12 volts to the coil. This is the heavy pink wire at the coil connector.

If it is the ignition module best to use a GM part. The others just are not as good.

I don't know of where to get an ignition module in the UK. Is there still GM dealers there? They should be able to get one for you. Another option is to order one from the states. From a place such as GM Parts Direct or Pace parts.
