Information about ALDL diagnosing tools

Hi there...
I am not sure where to put this post but I need some information about the ALDL diagnosing tools.

I have a 87 Camaro that is converted from carb to TPI.
I use a MAF setup with a PROM and ECM for a 88model 305TPI engine

I am new to the ALDL diagnosing software programs so it would have been nice if some of you could tell me a little bit about it.

I have ordered a USB - ALDL cable from www.aldlcable.com
I also have downloaded the TTS Datamaster program and that program looks very nice to me.

I know it is difficult for you to understand what my question here is but I am not sure what my question is myself so I will try to explain to you.

My car is running OK but not perfect and I have done ALL the "mechanical" and electrical tests that is possible in the engine bay. I have measured volts and stuff like that but still not 100%

What I mean is that my car idle's a little bit rough sometimes and sometimes not. Everything of electrical components are brand new and there is no vacuum leak and stuff like that.

I also have a big problem with my TCC clutch. When the car is about to change gear from 4th to 3rd or 3rd to 2nd without giving any gas at the pedal the car starts shaking....

So my question here is: Is it possible to find faults on the TCC clutch with this software program?..And is it possible to find faults with the MAF sensor for example?..And the TPS and IAC??...

I guess this program will cover all those readings?...And what about the EGR system?..Is it possible to get any info on that system through the software?

I know theese questions sounds stupid, and don't think that I am 6year old kid that is asking: what is excacly 12volts??...Because I have a lot of experience on mechanical and electrical jobs in cars...

I have also been sitting thousands of hours in front of a PC computer so I know how a PC works..

I am just curious what you can do with a program like this, and I hope some of you can give me some hints and tips. I will really appreciate that..

Any of you familiar with the TTS datamaster program by the way?...

Re: Information about ALDL diagnosing tools

I believe a SES/CE light will appear if the sensor checks bad. If ECU sees a fault I believe it will throw the light if fault appears a few times. Called soft code vs hard code. Hard throws a light. Soft is stored. Software will allow you easier access to MALF codes.

I am uncertain if a code is set for trans. I have a Haynes manual for 1985 TPI Vette. There is a Torque Converter Clutch lockup that the ECU controls I believe. Is you prom for auto trans?
