305 t-5 ecm to 305 700r4 ecm?

I have a 1991 trans am vert 305tpi t-5 car that has issues and I tink one of them is the ecm..I have the chance to buy a 1992 Z28 305tpi with a 700r4...
I need many parts that are on this car, since many of them are compatable...but I was wondering if there is any differance in the ecm or are they the same?...I would be having to use the chip outta the Z28 also...Thanks for your help.

The '90 through '92 f-body TPI systems all used the same ECM: 1227730. Note that if it has been replaced that the Service No. may vary. But it is still the same ECM.

What changes is the MEMCAL. That holds the PROM along with the ESC filter and CALPAK resistors.

The '7730 ECM was also used in a bunch of other cars. Including the '90-'92 f-body MPFI 3.1l vehicles. So they are on the easy side to find.

Thanks a bunch...I'm wanting to try the ECM.so that works,,But the memcal has been swapped in my car for a Hypercrap chip by previous owner...and I don't have the original to put back in it...Thats why I was asking if the auto chip would work in the manual car...I guess not,
where could I get an original memcal?..haha,I'm assuming the answer will be good luck, but am hoping not,Thanks man..Great help

You can use the auto MEMCAL in the stick car. It works, but there are some oddities to using it. The differences are mostly in the idle control area of the calibration. A flywheel/clutch vs. a flexpate/torque-converter.

It only takes a minute to swap the MEMCAL so it is worth a try.

Are the MEMCALS the same from year to year? I'm more curious about the 87 to 89 TPI auto setup.

Those years 87 - 98 used a MAF system the 90 - 92 Used a MAP system. The memcal packs do not interchange.

This can get tricky with the '87 through '89 MYs. The main differences are the cold start injector and VATs. Put a '89 MEMCAL in an '88 and it won't start (VAT's). Put a '87 MEMCAL in a '89 and it may not start, no cold enrichment because the '89 doesn't have the cold start injector.

However, f you are going to do some DIY tuning, then these differences won't matter.
