1992 Firebird ECM

This isn't anything especially crucial, but I was curious nonetheless.

When I start my Firebird, I hear an odd buzzing noise from where the ECM is. I had never heard this before, and until I knew what the ECM was, I always thought it was some vacuum line that went to my A/C or something. Is this something I should worry about, or am I just being paranoid?

The car drives fine. I've never really had any problems with her, but I'm just curious as to why the ECM, or something around it, is making this noise.

Re: 1992 Firebird ECM

I cannot think of anything in the ECM that would cause it to buzz...

The only thing that could buzz in that area might be a solonoid, or something along those lines. When exactly does it buzz, is it while you are cranking, or is it just after you start, or is it just before you start to crank?

Re: 1992 Firebird ECM

It's buzzing the whole time the car is in the "On" position, so to speak, whether it's running or not. I don't hear it during cranking (2-3 cranks and it starts right up; I love that car).

Like I said, the Firebird's acting fine, but I was just curious.

This may sound a little off the wall, but with the key-on, engine-off change the HAVC blower speed. It may be a leaf or such in the blower fan.

Re: 1992 Firebird ECM

Tried what you said, but it didn't do anything. I still hear the buzzing noise, no matter what the speed, even when it's off.

Oh well, I'd assume it will go away on it's own or something. If not...well, I always wanted to beef up the V6.

Re: 1992 Firebird ECM

What options does your car have?

power antenna? Power locks? power windows?

Also other than that is where the sound is coming from, why do you think it is the ECM? have you removed it and felt it buzz? I would think that you should be able to feel it buzz...

Re: 1992 Firebird ECM

Yup, all power options. Windows, locks, but no antenna.

Yeah, I took the beauty panel off and felt it as it was making the noise. Felt a little vibration.
