prom chip advice or help?

Hey guys i have a 1991 Camaro z28 With the f code 305 tpi engine. It's a 5 speed and it has the g92 option withthe 3.42 rear gears. Im lookin to replace the prom or have a better one programmed... Is it possible to get a hypertech chip and use the tpiparts.com adapter or does it have to be a factory chip. For those of you that havent heard of it..u plug your stock prom into it and it overrides that chip with settings programed on itself. heres the link http://tpiparts.net/inc/sdetail/657 it looks good..and its not tooo expensive. will that work?
