ecm identification ?

can the ecm be identified by running the diagnostics on OBD1?
Got a 87 ecm I am hoping to pass off as a 91 ecm.

Re: ecm identification ?

I know the 87 unit uses mass air sensor. Most 91 models were speed density. If so, they will not interchange. You can usually get a 91 model 122730 off ebay for a few bucks

Re: ecm identification ?

I was not clear, did an engine change into my 240sx and
it has to be inspected, need fuel injection and smog equpiment from a vehicle similar in year or newer. my car is 91
I am hoping that if I use the 87 ecm and keep the MAF well hidden that the smog ref will not notice, or be able to tell.

more I think about it I think you are right.
can't hide the MAF that well and would have to have dummy map sensor
and would need to pull the 9 injector for cold start.
