whats acceptabale ? i'm getting random 1-3 counts but never at the same rpm an load ( i'm assuming the numbers on the top of the graph is load ? ) i've done a couple data logs an the knock is in different spots . also i don't have my wideband hooked up yet so i'm not tuned in open loop yet .

Re: knock counts ...

In my opinion, you are always going to have random knock. As motors get more miles on them they get noisier. 1-3 counts is really nothing. The knock setup on these cars wasn't much right from the start and lots of people disable knock in programming to get rid of false knock. So I don't think it is much to worry about at those levels.

Re: knock counts ...

False knock also occurs at key-off. The filter is powered down while the ECM stays running for several seconds (about 4), at which time the ECM sees and reports this as random knock.

If it is consistently in the same area and is true knock, it then depends upon the situation. If it is during heavy load then no knock is good. If it is a little during light tip-in, eh, can usually ignore it. As reducing the SA also reduces response and at light throttle a small amount of knock is nothing to worry about.

For reducing the SA, take half the peak knock reported and reduce the SA by that. If the amount of retard doesn't decrease odds are it is false knock.
