well, is it worth doing it yourself, buying all the tools ect, or does anyoen suggest just buying one from hypertech er whatever. i have a 92 rs, tbi 305 yadda yadda, ...putting headers on it tomarrow, ...has open air element, ...gutted cat, ...flowmaster exhaust..i plan on putting in a new cam and the world products torquer heads. not sure about the cam yet, i need some ideas on that too. anyways, ..should i just bow down and buy the hypertech or is it seriously worth it to program your own chip.

ok youll need a cheap laptop preferable one thats atleast a a P1 running at 66mhz. youll probobaly prefer www.tunercat.com for tunnign software its the most user friendly stuff out there. as for a cheap eprom programmer that seems to be pretty capable right now check out www.ustr.net i have the epromer5 and it works ok however it doenst like my laptop ??? oh well. i have a dell latitude
lm 166st and a toshiba that either gonna go int eh trash or get refurbed. either way then youll need scaner which i think you should be able to get here

I'm building a TPI 383, but working with the stock 2.8L right now...I don't care what happens to this engine, so I'm all for experimenting to the extreme with it...

I have a PII laptop that's about 200MHz if I remember right...so no extra cost there...


Am I mistakened to believe that I can be tuning in real time on a saturday and burning chips to match the best results that evening with about $350 (or less) invested in tools?

The equipment I just mentioned will work with a 2.8L MPFI V6 from my '88 Firebird, wont it?
And it will work for my Speed Density TPI that will sit atop the 383 in the months to come, right?

Longshot here: Will it work on my '92 3000GT SL? (Just a thought...)

What's the status on Tunercat's software for the RomUlator?
