I just got my car back together for the summer. When I turn the key to the on position my SES light comes on and stays lit and the primary fan comes on.
I tried a code scan, the SES light just stay lit
I did a 730 conversion last summer and drove it for a few months on SD.
This is what I have tried to fix it:
1) Tried new different memcal
2) Reprogram chip like 3 times
3) Tried different 730 ECU I know is good b/c it works on another car.
I know a bad chip or memcal or the chip in backwards will cause the SES light to stay on but what else will cause this?
My Setup: 89 IROC converted to 730, using Craig Moates memcal adapter, and PP2
When I turn the key to the on position the SES light will sometimes pulse. It will never fully turn off just get brighter then dimmer and keep doing that.
I am so confused. When I face the notch in the EEPROM toward the center of the mem-cal the SES light doesn't come on (still doesn't start). When the PROM is facing toward the outside of the ECM case the SES light comes one.
Isn't the proper way with the notch facing the edge of the ECM case?????
Okay I downloaded a new bin online, didn't change any values just programmed it to a chip and put it in my car.
With the key on the on position the SES light stays lit BUT the fan is not on now. I did a code scan and got code 12 and 15 (Low temperature indicated at engine coolant temp. sensor)
I cleared the codes and the SES light still stays lit with the key in the on position, the only code I get now when I check the codes is 12.

Ok, so now you have the code 12 engine off key on? Will it start? And yes, in Craig's adaptor the notch on the chip faces AWAY from the zif handle and towards the edge of the ECM.
Make sure the adaptor is fully seated in the ECM too. also, if you have another chip you may want to try it, if not see about getting one, might have a bad chip.
Finally fixed it all. I was having a starting problem which was my starter so I couldn't fully test the chip, fixed that. I fixed the limp home problem. The 2 chips I tried were bad. I burned a new one and it works great.
So anyone who can’t get the thing out of limp home mode, keep trying new chips…
The SES light does stay on with the key in the on position is this normal? I haven’t driven my car in almost a year so I forget.
