Home made ALDL cable: testing

Hi there, How do i test my ALDL cable to see if it works?
Can i do it out of the car just on my computer?
Will i need to provide it with power to do this?
Ive made it with a DB9 connector, is this ok or should i do DB25?

thanks for any help

to test it, make it do what it's supposed to do..report aldl data to a notebook. hook it to your car, hook it to the notebook, run your aldl scanner software, and see if you get data.

use whatever connector youre notebook has. probably db9.

but if you don't want to hook cable to aldl connector before test it , you can use "ALDL_TEST" software
