I cannot get connected to my 730 ECM via autoprom w/USB and moates 852 software. I have read many posts and still have no definitive answers... so, can someone please lay out exact instructions that anyone could follow. I would really appreciate it.
I tried that, the program opens, then it counts down to zero. never connects. I have the OBD1 ALDL cable connected into the Autoprom, then I have the USB cable to the laptop. Com ports are set right, preferences are set to 730 ECM (even thought I am using a 90 vette ECM) and it never connects. I tried about 10 times before I quit.
I really need to get this thingy tuned. I am due in for emissions testing this this week.
OK, is there a fix yet? I read the post and it is refering to the tunerPro data logging.... do you think the moates ECM852 is having the same problems? I have not tried the TunerPro datalogging b/c I am trying to use craigs vephd to tune with. I also do not want to shell out the cash to Datamaster for the software.
Ahh, I've seen this before. There are other devices on the ALDL link talking to the ECM. Either need to tell them to shut-up (via the data logger) or disconnect them from the ALDL line.
If you can isolate the ALDL pin/line from the ECM and have the scan tool cable hook only to the ECM, it will work.
Since there isn't information in the .ds file on how to get the other equipment (the dash in this case, I believe), do you have information on what command does this?

OK, so if I run a seperate wire to the aldl data stream wire and disconnect everything else, I might get Craig Moates ECM852 to connect to my 1227727 ecm?
Tonight I will try to hook up TunerPro to see if I can even get the connections to the computer. I guess I could download Datamaster to my laptop, but that takes a long time with my laptop.
EDIT:
Before I buy datamaster, I am going to try to disconnect everything else from the aldl. Correct me if I am wrong, but everything should work fine (that is, the stuff I disconnected), I just will not be able to diagnos (which I obviously would not be doing while I am tunig)
Is the CCM the only thing giving me the problem? I believe the other posts on this mention the ABS and A/C control head are also tapped into that wire.

Might be easiest to remove the ALDL stream wire/pin from the ECM connector and put another one in it place. That one would go to the laptop cable.
Could also cut the ALDL stream wire going to the ECM and put a switch in along with splicing in a wire for the laptop cable. The switch would be used to open the connection between the ECM and the rest of the vehicle.

The CCM is the bus master. So it should be the only one transmitting. I know the ABS is a slave and does not xmit. Not sure how the A/C head operates.

I think putting a switch in there that disconnects everything but the ECM serial data would be pretty easy.
YOU MAY HAVE FOUND EXACTLY WHAT I NEED!
i'm running a 727, but its on a 165 harness so i don't have any of the CCM stuff.
to log data, which of your serial outputs on the comptuer is the right one? DO i have to have both of those serial outputs connected to the laptop in order to log?
with my weather pack connectors, only one of those serial outputs has a pin, the other one is completely filled in with plastic...maybe my connectors are from a different car?
Anyway, do i have to run them both to the ALDL for logging or which one do i run if its just one of them.

thanks so much
IIRC the two ALDL data stream pins are connected together inside of the ECM. So either pin will work. I was surprised to see the wiring diagram with both pins in use.
Are B5 and B11 actually externally connected in a Vette?
You could put in a switch at that point in the wiring harness.
Maybe my logic is all screwed up, but switching at the ecm will do no good. You need to get the ccm and other stuff out of the stream, so placing a switch near the aldl to only send the ECM data stream through would be the way to go.
I have a post at corvetteforum.... one guy told me an error code (SES light) would occur by doing so. My thoughts on that are... so what? After datalogging, I can just erase the code when I switch back to normal mode.
