Making ALDL cable

I cannot find the guide to make an ALDL cable that I had once found, it was step by step, and I used it to make my other cable, can someone point me in the right direction? I have tried searching for it in a few different matters, but still no luck on the step by step guide.

Dude that's an awesome webpage you got there, thanks a ton. I did end up making this cable, and was wondering if it will work?

first print out the picture with the schematic so you
have it for refference. The package the transistor
came in will tell what is the base, collector, and
emitter.

read throught this after you have all the parts and
try to visualize where they are going to go before you
solder anything. I was able to make the whole thing
fit inside to housing for the serial cable.

Find pin one on the serail connecter (should be
labeled if you look close)

Solder the collector to pin 2 of the serial connector.

Solder a 10 K resistor to pin 4 of the serial cable.
Solder the other end of the resistor to the collector
coming out of pin 2.

Solder the Emitter to pin five of the serial connector

Solder a wire (this will be the ground connection so
make it as long as you want the cable to be) to the
emitter comming out of pin 5

Solder a 10K resistor to the base of the transistor.

Solder the data wire to the other end of the resistor
that is connected to the base of the transistor.

All that is left is putting the housing around the
serial connector and plugging it in to the ALDL. I
didn't need the the resistor connected to the aldl to
make the cable work in my 91 RS.

Good Luck and let me know if you need more assistance.

I am having trouble trying to hook it up to a laptop with windows xp, and i believe it to be because of settings in the program, and the computer. What settings is everyone using for hooking up and datalogging to their $58 conversion? What baud rate, com port etc with windows xp? Thanks.

This site has diagrams and points to diagrams for ALDL OBD1 cables:
http://www.aldlcable.com

Their cables are sturdy, and if you look at the aldlcable.com website, you can see a picture under their kits section of all the parts used. Shipping is quick, and for the price of $40 it saves time hunting for parts.

This site also has quite a bit of information and links to other hardware available, and it explains the circuits used to make the cables.
