Poor Idle

Hi,
I hope that someone can give me some advice. I'm not burning my owm chips yet, but hope too soon. I had PCM for Less burn me a chip, ran the TPI swap just fine, now I have a Miniram on it. Here is my problem, When I start the car cold/open loop it idles at 1000 rpm in park and in drive at 600 rpm, which is good that's where I like it, but when the car is warmed up/closed loop the idle drops to 750 rpm in park and and is around 450/500 rpm and almost stalling in drive. I have no scanning software or burning software so I can't do any logging....yet. I have no codes though. Runs a little rich too. Just need some advice.

Setup is now:
1968 327 ( bored .030 over, 331 cid)
TPIS Miniram II
TPIS AFPR ( pressure set at 41 lbs, last time i checked )
22 lb. Injectors
52mm BBK ThrottleBody
Elgin Hydraulic Flat Tappet Cam
224/234@.050
465/488 lift
112 lsa
AFR 195 Heads
68 cc Combustion Chamber
Hedman LT Headers 1 5/8" x 3"
3" X-Pipe Dual exhaust with C5 Mufflers

Have you readjusted the throttle plate and IAC since you did the mods?

You really need to scan the car and look what des.idle speed is and what you IAC is doing.

You could try open the Throtte plates a little to keep it running.

Yeah that's what I've been doing but when you adjust the Throttle plates in Closed loop to get the idle back up it messes up open loop idle. If I adjust the idle in closed loop to 1000 rpm in park then it bumps up the idle in open loop to 1500+ rpm, I don't like that. I need to do some programming !!!

I to suggest getting involved with programing, but on the short term call back the chip company you dealt with and tell them what is happening. They should burn you a couple more chips for free since the one they sent doesn't work. I can't stand when these companies charge an arm an a leg and the chip doesn't work. They should be heald accountable for the product they send out. About 90% of DYI guys have had these problems and thats why they got into this game. I bought my first custom chip in 1997 for $500.00. The changes were minimal and probably took a whole 5 minutes to create. The chip didn't even have fueling or timing changes.

Well I guess you could say that the problems I'm having are mostly my fault. I've changed my setup alot since I got that chip done. I had a TPI setup, with 19 lb. injectors, 48mm throttlebody, stock heads, stock fuel pressure regulator, everything was essentially stock except for the engine 327 cid and the cam was different. Now I have this new setup, so I'm running the new setup with the old chip, cause I don't have the ability to burn my own stuff at the moment and I'm low on money. I'm just trying to get buy with what I have for now. It runs the car, but low rpm drivability sucks. I was just wanting some advice on what the problem might be so that when I go to burn my new chips I have an idea of what to look for. The chip I have worked great for my TPI setup, but I don't have a TPI setup anymore. So I need to do some programming.

Here you go.

Lots of the more common issues in one massive sticky.

Do some searching here also. There is massive differences in tuning required from a short runner intake like you have now vs. the TPI that was there prior.

Quite a few good posts on the subject and covered in quite good detail.

Well, I don't know but for right now I got the idle to settle down. I don't know if disconnecting the PCV system would play with the idle, but I had removed to PCV and Crankcase Evac system and replaced them with breather filters, the idle was okay for awhile and deteriorated over time. I read around and seems that things were pointing to a vaccuum leak, but I couldn't figure where it was coming from, then I was seeing vapours coming from the filters. So I replaced the PCV and Crackcase systems, I reset the IAC and ran the car for 30 mins in differing RPM levels and in park. Everything seems to be fine again. But I will still want to start burning my own stuff.
