I am currently in the process of converting a 77 corvette to TPI with donor parts out of an 89 Iroc
I had to order an ecu since the swap did not come with one, along with a new distributor. However when I ordered the ECU, it came with no Prom holder, and no Prom.
My past experience with Honda ECU's and reading though the SA Design Chevy TPI Swappers guide leads me to believe the 66 Pin prom holder that did not come with my ECU, contains a circuit board, 24 pin Prom and Calpak.
I have no idea where to get this 66 pin prom holder, along with any other items contained in it, other than the 24 pin Proms which I comonly use as it is.
Can anyone clue me in as to where I may get this, or a thread that may explain this? I have searched and can find many useful and related topics, but nothing to lead me to exactly what I need.
Do a search for "memcal" and whatever ecm your part number is. The eprom, knock filter circuit, and NETRES can be found on the memcal and it's important that you get the correct memcal. The most important thing is that the knock filter or NETRES match up with the engine. 350, get a 350 memcal, 305, get a 305, a 383, use a 350 since the knock filter is designed based on engine bore, not stroke so much.
If you give us more information we can point you in the right direction. Like what ecm you have, what type of EFI (SD or MAF) you're trying to get up and running.

Here's a pic of a memcal, it's the blue item in this photo.
In your ecm it fits in about the middle of the case, and at a right angle compared to the one in this pic.
Buying a memcal at your local dealer is about your best source, IMO. Thou you might initially want a 88 MY version, since the 89 has a VATS system incorporated into it. As long as the CID and tranny type match it'll get you running. After that, and if you want to get into proms, then you can modify things from there, and go with the 89 code.

As far as my setup...I will have to check what ECM I have. I would have to believe it is the 1227165 ECU, however it is at the shop, and I did not bring it home since I just mounted it in the car, and did not think I would need it!! Stupid thought when shopping for parts to go right inside of it. It is an AC Delco reman unit regardless!

If it's the 165 ecm then you're going to need an external ESC module.
I still don't know your engine displacement so I can't recommend a memcal . Do you already have the ESC module? If you have a complete wiring harness it might be connected.
not for nothing guys but i just messed up my memcal when i removed my prom. i am installing moates ostrich unit in it. my question is where can i buy a memcal. i am using the 165. its a 383 with 6 speed if that helps. do you guys have a part number for it. all i can get from parts stores are a reman ecm. thanks
You can buy a new MEMCAL from your GM dealer. A good price would be somewhere between $40-50.
The part number for AUJM is 16150500, and ARAP is 16134193, just to name a couple of '165/5.7L apps. With the '165 ECM, it really doesn't matter so much which one you start with, since the ESC is a separate module. Last time I looked, AUJM was a few bucks cheaper, so that's the one I'd use.
For ECMs like the '730, where the ESC circuitry is included on the MEMCAL, it's best to match the bore diameter if possible.
If you don't have a good GM parts guy local to you, try Dal Slabaugh at 1-877-448-5451, or one of the other dealers that cater to internet clubs.
(EDIT: As a side note, AUJM does have VATS. That's not a problem for the guy who posted the question immediately above, since he's using an emulator, but if you wanted a memcal that will plug into a non-VATS car and run with no changes at all, your choice might be different, as was mentioned earlier in this thread.)
