well, I did something...

I had to extend the harness for my 730 ECM....so I did. Well, after splicing those 60 or so wires the car starts for a couple of seconds and then dies. I spent all day yesterday troubleshooting so I thought I'd ask for assistance before I waste another whole day. I've got good fuel pressure and double-checked every lead twice so I'm starting to wonder if something failed while I had the system apart.
I'm thinking of redoing my PROM (but I don't really think it's that). Is there any troubleshooting I can do with my AutoProm that would help me narrow this down?

Did you check for any codes?.
Won't your scanner link to the ecm?, if so then just scan thur the values to make sure they're all reasonable.

<sigh>, I've BTDT, sometimes, the apparent just ain't.

Check to make sure the fuel pump is running when the engine is.

Well, I had a couple of leads swapped...

to a couple of sensors...and I was being so patient, deliberate, and careful...oh well, that wasn't so moronic.

The other error was moronic...I hooked up the power supply to the wrong terminal on the starter....so it would only start for the 2 seconds that the gear was engaged.....

Sure wish those automotive electrical prints used conventional symbols....

Dont feel too bad.

When rewiring ecm's, adding fans, aftermarket injection harness' etc, my friends all laugh at me.

They see diagrams and notebook drawings off what I want to do and think its cute.
(note, I always try to wire it similiar to the way the factory did where applicable, keeps troubleshooting less troublesome :-))

I usually dont end up with any wiring issues, and when it is its usually something they spliced to power or ground when I was repinning or some other fun aspect of it all.

Taking notes and drawing it out or writing out the repin before hand saves alot of time and confusion when doing it for real.

Besides, theres not a soul here who hasnt swapped a wire once:-)

Its all part of the game

later

Don't feel bad, not that I'm that good, but even with all the practice I've had, and as many notes as I take, I still make some dumb errors. About, all I can say, is that nothings caught fire lately <sigh>.........

I won't tell ya about my old antique lacquered desk that didn't fare too well as a heat sink for some power transistors........
BTW, if anyone asks smoldering antique lacquered desks do not smell the least bit inviting.

Turn the ignition on/ engine off. If there is a problem with a sensor, ecm or chip the ses light will not flash once. It's suppose to flash one time, then stay on.... if the system is OK.
