ECM help

I have a 92 chevy truck with the 16146299 ecm... is this a decent computer or should or can i upgrade?? I'm getting all my p's and q's together before i buy my burning software. I'm sure this ecm is not the most popular but if i can tune good on this to learn off of i think it will be okay. Can anyone correct my check list:

Laptop, aldl cable, scanning software such as winaldl "but cant find my ecm in that program", some type of editing software like tunercat, then a solder in burnable chip and burner????

I've looked around at a million sites and they offer sooo many different progrmas and burners, i really dont know what will be the best way to go.. I hear going real time is the best way to go but not sure if this is good for begginers?? I wish someone could just tell me exactly what to get and be done with it

Well,

For the basics, hit the "tuning guide" at top and read the first 3-4 posts.

For editing most people here use Tunercat or TunerPro in one version or another.

Most popular burner has to be the Pocket Programmer II, but other options are available and dependable thru Moates.net.

Do a search on this board using, programmers. burners, editors, etc and you should be able to find out what all the other guys in your exact shoes are doing :-)

later

Re: ECM help

Ihave the 6299 in a PU and use winaldl to log, been a while since i have tuned and don't remember which ecm # to use to log, maybe hook up and click the different ones to ck. i use Tunercat to edit, and for me, starting to learn this is a good platform to start on IMHO. Simle but effective, I tuned somewhat at wot and alot at cruising speeds. Just starting to get back into it gettin ready for a long blk Vortec swap. Iplan on to continue to use the 6299 with it, we'll see. 1 guy on here, I think, G20 Van? or something like that has ALOT of good reading from his post do a search, he could be on another forum. I shut up now, btw, this stuff is like crack, addiction, good luck Read up on Moates.net I tried PP2 before I found his website. It was a smelly turd.
