Merry Xmas guys.. I've been looking for a PCM to control a new project I am putting together, and my research has found the $11 (VR auto Holden Commodore) to be about the best. I can't believe I haven't read much about its use here before! I did try searching, but the forum software won't allow seaching on "$11" It has the following festures available, to name a few... PFI 7200 rpm VE tables! 2 mode 4l60e (normal and 'performance' shift tables) fan control rpm limiter lean cruise dfco a/c disable and enable output based on rpm and tps (nitrous control, shift light, alternator unloading, whatever!!) It looks good to me. I'm going to get one and have a play with it.. I have not found a hac for it yet, so creating and xdf will be some work, but I'll do it.. If anyone has a hack, please let me know!! Anyone else got an interest in this?? Anyone else wanna get together and ask the mods to allow shorter search terms?

Sounds like a pretty sweet PCM, though. Wish I had a nice 4l60E and whatnot, as I'd love to learn tranny control stuff.

Some guys in Oz have been working on the auto PCM's but aren't making it available publicly (that's pretty easy to understand given they aren't getting much help from people like me!).

For instance, have a look at the Street Commodores website and you'll see some posts by VL400 - he is building a commented hac. You won't get the hac, but he is helpful with issues.

There are one or two others who I think would like to remain nameless but might identify themselves.

There was a copy of an $11 ECU on Craig Moates site, but it only had the engine parameters (virtually the same template as the $12 manual masks).

I am building apretty strong 406/4l60e that I hope to put into a 1st gen Camaro. I am looking for a PCM to run it, and the $11 is the best I can find so far. But it doesn't have a lot of support in the DIY EFI arena..

If i can get the time, I will create an .xdf for it AND release it publically.. Get the ball rolling so to speak.

I have taken a lot from the DIY-EFI community, so I'd like to be able to give something back.

What would be really good is to identify a US GM PCM that is nearly identical to the '624 and will run $11. Who knows if one exists, but it would be nice, and certainly help with availabily and popularity! The more popular these things are, the more info and software will be available, so we all benefit IMO.

I have a few questions. Do you plan to run this code on a Gen-I SBC or a Holden V8? Is the $11 SFI or batch code? I know the Holden V8's run distributors, what is the input signal to the PCM a 4x pulse from the distributor or if it is SFI does it have a crank trigger?

Maybe one assembled, and one with the cover off.

I am hoping to use it on a gen1 sbc. I haven't yet fully sussed out the dissy stuff, but the holden motor runs a dissy VERY similar to the delco TBI/TPI type, and i would not expect too many probs.

Still researching this option......

You can bet that this is derived from a US GM PCM (like the '808 and '7165) . Just a matter of finding which one. I'll buy one and get some internal shots.

I found a pic of the cover on here and a pic with the cover off attached below and the full size pic can be seen here. It looks like the 94-95 TBI truck PCM's. Also it answers a question I had above. It's obviously not SFI since it only has two injector drivers.

I suspected it may be similar to the late TBI PCM's, but the only clue i had was that the memcal cover was the same shape, and those extra 3 screws in the case are the same..
I'll compare that pic to one of my spare late TBI PCM's..
I did quickly compare the pinouts, and they are VERY different..

Take a look at the full size 16197427 PCM here. It uses many of the same chips as the Australian PCM.

The later VT Commodores have SFI with a different (two sensor) distributor. Different PCM though obviously.

If anyone is keen to work on a $11 hac PM me, i have a compliable $12 hac that is pretty well complete (it will be released once its finished) and from the small look at a $11 disassembly i had it has a fair amount of similarities. There are .ecu files available for both $11 and $12 but there are many undefined locations (the closed loop stuff is one such segment).
