Just Downloaded TunerCat / Now do I need a $6E Calibration File for my '89 ECM?
I'm just starting to get into Prom Burning. I think this is excellent that we know have a big support group that can act as a safety net for me and others. I haven't bought any of the hardware for burning and erasing yet, but I am downloading TunerCat as I type this. The TunerCat software says it comes with $42 Cal. file. How can I get the $6E file? From the research I've done, I assume this is what I need.

Ok, I just read the post below by Scott 88 GTA. Does TunerCat charge for different calibration files? I guess this is not an abundant thing like BIN files that everybody is passing around.
Need a little help here guys.

TunerCat has pretty picture and I guess a cool name, but why bother when WinBin is free and user-definable? In the spirit of DIY, it seems like more fun to go in that way. Free software, fully functional. Maybe I'm missing something, but why is everyone so intoxicated by TunerCat? It really isn't THAT tremendous, certainly not I would think.
I think TunerCat is much easier to use then WinBin. Some of the field names in WinBin are so hard to understand I sometimes get frustrated and go back to TunerCat where everything is layed out nicely, with a graph, and pretty clear descriptions of what the different functions do.
Example: In winbin you'll see something like "VLO OCTANE KNOCK RETARD DECREASE AMT ??no conversion??" What the hell is that ?! LOL

Am I missing something? Not TC-bashing here...
It's quick, easy, and has support.
Once you get going, well, lots of guys start using the **wrong** (LOL) ecms in different applications, and doing friends cars, while winbin has a few .ecu files TC has many. I have many of his, GMEPro, and some *other* stuff and still run out of editors, and info.. I have editors (just counted)for 57 ecms / pcms and that's not enough.
If all you going to do is one car or two winbin and stuff like that is fine. But, once you get good with a system, it's second nature to navigate and transform to other stuff.
Like a good mechanic has a couple 1/2" sockets, doesn't hurt to gather stuff.

Did you ever get into the TTS version. Talk about plain....but they did the trick ...again at $300+ for each ECM.
I finally got the gmepro. spoke with terry on the phone a few times. there was a timing bug got the 90-91 epe file. he was a very nice guy.
on another note for tuners,
I mainly use GMpro for everything but fuel maps. I like the tuner cat graphing. you can slide the variables with the mouse
